Earlier in May we exhibited at Accountex 2016 which is billed as the national event for Accountants in Business and in Practice. The two day show was well attended by over 1,000 industry professionals and covered by leading financial media agencies such as AccountingWEB, Economia and AccountancyAge.

The show addressed many of the challenges faced by CFOs, FDs and Accountants through their packed workshop schedule, but it also showcased the excellent technology available within the finance industry.

Our FD and GM Ian Smith, accompanied by our CTO Stuart Evans, hosted a speaker session on the first day. With attendees queuing outside the door to get a seat, the presentation titled “Mind the gap! A deluded FD meets the CTO” involved Ian taking on the role of a deluded FD who was under the impression that all was well within his Finance department.

The presentation was founded on the results from our recent industry research report that highlighted the false impressions FDs within medium sized business are under. Key highlights such as:

•       84% reporting that they still use manual or Microsoft excel/word documents as part of their purchasing process.

•       83% of medium sized businesses did not regularly pay their suppliers on time.

•       60% of medium sized businesses occasionally or frequently made Duplicate payments to suppliers

The presentation received a positive reception from the audience who was surprised to learn that these statistics were so high. The full presentation slideshow with additional statistics from our market research can be viewed here. During the event Ian also took part in a live Periscope interview with AccountancyAge and on the second day of the event had a video interview with AccountingWEB in the media suite, which you can view by clicking the link.
